Ascorbic Acid functions as an antioxidant and is a nutrient your body needs to form cartilage, muscle and collagen in bones. It is also vital to your body’s healing process. Ascorbic Acid has also been shown to enhance iron absorption in the body.
Arthrospira Maxima is a species of the spirulina plant, a natural microalga. Studies have shown that adding spirulina to your routine could help detox your body, boost energy levels and even enhance cognitive function.
Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) is a leafy green vegetable that originated in Persia. It belongs to the amaranth family and is related to beets and quinoa. It is considered very healthy, as it is rich in nutrients and antioxidants.
Iron (II) Glycinate (Ferrous Bisglycinate) has been shown to be more effectively absorbed than other types of iron chelate. Iron participates in energy production, oxygen transport and immune activity.
Vitamin B1 or Thiamine is a water-soluble vitamin that is used in nearly every cell in the body. It supports energy levels and a healthy metabolism. Humans cannot produce thiamine, so it must be sourced from the diet or supplements to prevent thiamine deficiency.
Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, is a water-soluble vitamin that is involved in energy metabolism. It works by helping the body utilise other B vitamins, such as niacin and thiamine, so we can produce energy from the foods that we eat.
Pyridoxine is in the vitamin B family of vitamins. Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that your body needs for several functions. It has health benefits for the body, including promoting brain health and improving mood.
Vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin naturally found in food as tetrahydrofolate derivatives. Folate helps iron absorption and reduces symptoms of iron deficiency.
Vitamin B12 is an important water-soluble vitamin that is involved in red blood cell production, brain health, and iron absorption. A deficiency in Vitamin B12 can cause serious symptoms, including fatigue, digestive issues and neurological problems like Loss of cognitive function and memory.

Why our advanced formula specifically contains these ingredients
Iron
The main action of iron is to facilitate the transport of haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying pigment to the erythrocytes (red blood cells). It is also involved in the oxygen storage by myoglobin, an iron-containing protein that transports and stores oxygen within muscle and releases it to meet increased metabolic demands during muscle contraction. Iron is vital for the proliferation of all cells including those of the immune system. Iron deficiency causes several defects in both humeral and cellular immunity (Herbs and Natural Supplements An Evidence Based Guide2nd Edition Braun & Cohen Elsevier 2007). Ultra Nature Iron Advanced contains a more readily absorbed form of iron, Iron (II) Glycinate which is gentle on the digestive system and less constipating.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C has been shown to enhance iron absorption. It captures non-heme iron and stores it in a form that’s more easily absorbed by your body (Am J Clin Nutr. 2010). UltraNature contains 250mg of ascorbic acid to ensure maximum iron absorption. Taking 100 mg of vitamin C with a meal increased iron absorption by 67% (Am J Clin Nutr. 2000).
Hydroxocobalamin (B12)
Vitamin B12 is involved in helping the body make red blood cells and keeping the nervous system healthy, release energy from food and metabolise folate. A lack of vitamin B12 could lead to vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia. Deficiencies in vitamin B12 can result in diminished energy and exercise tolerance, together with fatigue and shortness of breath. These hematologic symptoms regress and disappear with supplementation with vitamin B12 (Journal List Nutrients v.12(1); 2020 Jan) Ultra Nature Iron Advanced contains hydroxocobalamin which is a bio-available type of Vitamin which means the body absorbs it more easily.
Oxygen Transport Requires Iron and Vitamins B6, B9 and B12
Anaemia may have other nutrition-related origins than iron deficiencies and there is evidence that inadequate supplies of certain B vitamins, primarily vitamins B6, B9 and B12, can lead to anaemias. Metabolic and functional pathways of vitamins B9 and B12 and, to a lesser extent, vitamin B6 are closely interrelated. The folate cycle, which is critical to the generation of the active forms of vitamin B9, is dependent upon vitamin B12. Deficiencies in folate (vitamin B9) can result in megaloblastic anaemia, which produces symptoms of weakness and fatigue, headache, palpitations, and shortness of breath. Weakness and fatigue typically appear at an advanced stage but may be seen at milder degrees of anemia in some patients, especially the elderly (Journal List Nutrients v.12(1); 2020 Jan). Ultra Nature Iron Advanced contains the activated form of B9 Folinoc acid for maximum bioavailability and absorption.
Arthrospira Maxima (Spirulina) & Spinacia Oleracea Leaf Powder
Both ingredients are added to Ultra Nature Iron Advanced to boost iron levels in a natural way. Both are regarded as good sources of iron (Food & function, 10.1039/d2fo02226e.5 Jan. 2023,doi:10.1039/d2fo02226e Arthrospira platensis (Spirulina) fortified functional foods).
