Why is Selituss better than other Natural Chesty Cough mixtures?
Selituss is the only Natural Chesty Cough Mixture that contains 2 active ingredients. Most other remedies only use Ivy Leaf extract, often referred to as Hedera Helix, as their active ingredient. Selituss has been formulated to also include Thyme Leaf extract, known as Thymus Vulgaris. Both ingredients are natural and well tolerated and when combined are more efficacious and cover a wider spectrum of benefits and indications. With it’s natural cherry flavour, you will find that it is well-tolerated by children.
What do the Active Ingredients Actually do?
Ivy Leaf (Hedera Helix) has been extensively researched and its efficacy has been tested and proven in many clinical trials. Systematic Review of Clinical Trials Assessing the Effectiveness of Ivy Leaf (Hedera Helix) for Acute Upper Respiratory Tract Infections concluded that Ivy extracts are effective for reducing symptoms of URTI.(1) Ivy Leaf has also been found to contain 5-8% saponins and low content of emetine. Both of these are effective in clearing, thinning and loosening mucous from the chest.(2) Thyme Leaf (Thymus Vulgaris) has been used medicinally to treat common infections, coughs and bronchial cough. The expectorant activity of Thymus has been demonstrated in animal studies. Working together, the two active ingredients provide more effective relief. The Ivy Leaf extract helps to loosen and thin the mucous and the Thyme Leaf extract, as an expectorant, will help your body clear out this excess mucus from your airways.
My children always refuse to take natural cough mixtures because of their bad taste, will Selituss be the same?
Selituss has a great tasting natural cherry flavour to make it more palatable for children. While it doesn’t exactly taste like sweet cherries, it has been found to be well-tolerated by children and better tasting than many other natural products on the market. Selituss should not be given to infants under 2 years of age without first seeking medical advice.
