Chrondrotin (Chrondrotin Bovine Sulfate)
Chondroitin is a natural substance found in the human body and a major component of cartilage. Chondroitin is taken by many people with joint pain, osteoarthritis, and other signs of ‘wear and tear’ due to aging.

Natural Sources
Chondroitin is found in animal cartilage, but it is hard to get therapeutic doses of chondroitin from food. The highest natural food source for chondroitin is the gristle on animal bones. Bone broth may also contain chondroitin and other nutrients that benefit joint health.

Evidence Summary
Both natural and laboratory-made chondroitin help build connective tissue throughout the body, including those that form joints and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Because it works by retaining water, chondroitin benefits include helping to add lubrication and flexibility to stiff or damaged tissues and joints. Chondroitin protects cartilage by providing it with the raw materials required for repair as well as inhibiting the enzymes in the synovial fluid, such as, elastase that damage joint cartilage. In addition, it increases hyaluronic acid production which not only ats as a shock absorber but also brings nutrients into the cartilage ⁽¹⁾. There several studies and meta-analysis of clinical data which suggest that oral chondroitin sulfate is a valuable and safe treatment for mild osteoarthritis ⁽²⁾. It is also important for forming tissue elsewhere in the body, including the skin, GI tract and the brain. In regard to the brain’s extracellular matrix, it helps stabilize normal brain synapses and protects the brain from injury. Following trauma to the brain, levels of chondroitin are increased rapidly to help regenerate new tissue in order to replace damaged nerve endings.
